Bank employees evacuate Dubai amid tensions, leaving behind pets and belongings
Bank staff in Dubai have started evacuating the city, leaving behind animals and personal property, according to The Banker citing financial sector sources. Many are leaving with their families, while those remaining are stockpiling food and essential goods. This signals increasing anxiety among industry workers.
A senior executive of an international bank, a British national, described the situation as “extremely alarming” and noted preparations for a prolonged conflict are underway. Although no mass exodus from the financial sector is currently observed, some bankers intend to leave only after air travel resumes. Over the past 30 years, Dubai has grown into one of the world’s leading financial centres thanks to its modern infrastructure and low taxes, but alternatives like Frankfurt, Tokyo, and Paris are increasingly considered.
It is expected that if tensions persist, Dubai may lose some of its regional financial hub status, potentially leading to significant shifts in the sector in the near future.
