Explosions reported near Iran’s Khark Island — Asharq Al-Awsat

Iranian media reported on September 5 that several explosions occurred near Iran’s Khark Island in the Persian Gulf, where one of the country’s main oil hubs is located. This was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.

Reports by Iranian agencies

The Fars agency said that its correspondent heard explosions in the area of the island, although no smoke was observed there. At the same time, the SNN agency claimed that the United States had attacked an Iranian tanker near Khark.

At the time of publication, there were no immediate comments from U.S. or Iranian officials.

Confrontation in the Persian Gulf

According to the outlet, hostilities between the United States and Iran resumed last Sunday after U.S. attacks on Iran. At that point, the war between the sides had already lasted six months. In response, Tehran struck U.S. targets in the Middle East.

Iran also said on September 3 that its armed forces had struck Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Tehran linked this to an intention to avenge the deaths of civilians at a wedding, for which it blamed Washington. The sides are also competing for control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz: Iran is blocking the passage of ships, while the United States supports a counter-blockade of Iranian ports.
