Archaeologists are excavating a 2,000-year-old ancient settlement near Marseille

Large-scale archaeological excavations are underway near Marseille at the site of an ancient settlement dating back some 2,000 years.

This is reported by Le Figaro.

A new phase of excavations in the municipality of Gemenos, 20 km east of Marseille, has been underway since January on a 4,000-square-meter site.

In the cultural layer dating back to approximately the 2nd–3rd centuries CE, during the decline of the Roman Empire, the remains of buildings and numerous household items belonging to the inhabitants of that time have been found.

In particular, near the entrance to the city, a complex of buildings featuring the well-known ancient hypocaust heating system was excavated, along with the remains of decorated thermal baths, evidently intended for travelers.

Traces of ancient vineyards, a smithy, a kitchen, and the remains of medieval pottery were also found atop the ancient layer, indicating that people lived in this place at a later time.

Russia, China, and France blocked a military resolution regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

As a reminder, the United Kingdom is organizing a virtual meeting with representatives from 35 countries to discuss ways to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the idea of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz by military force is unrealistic. According to him, such a scenario would only prolong the conflict and create even greater risks for everyone. Paris insists that the solution lies in negotiations with Iran, not in military operations.

U.S. partners are concerned that Donald Trump may halt the operation against Iran and not pursue the reopening of the strategic waterway.
