Bosnia and Herzegovina has called on its partners to stop Russia's attempts to destabilize the Western Balkans

Denis Bečirović, President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, called on international partners to prevent a new security crisis in the Western Balkans, which the Kremlin is attempting to provoke through its proxies.

Speaking at the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery in Gdańsk, Poland, the official emphasized that any destabilization of the Balkan region automatically weakens Ukraine and all of Europe.

As the leader of a country that endured brutal aggression and genocide between 1992 and 1995, Bečirović expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and called on the free world to provide even stronger support to Kyiv. At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina declared its readiness to provide Ukraine with practical assistance in post-war reconstruction, including sharing its unique experience in the areas of humanitarian demining, reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure, the return of internally displaced persons, the investigation of war crimes, and social support for veterans.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to become the next official candidate for accession to the European Union after Ukraine and Moldova.

The European Union peacekeeping forces in Bosnia, also known as Operation Althea, whose mission is to ensure continued compliance with the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement—which ended the 1992–2005 war—have extended their presence for another year.
