British regulator suspended the licenses of two bookmakers due to violations
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has suspended the operating licenses of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd. The decision was made after numerous violations were identified in the areas of social responsibility and anti-money laundering.
Both operators are registered at the same legal address and share a common director, Nicholas James Brereton. BresBet was granted licenses to operate in the online gambling sector in February 2025, and Bet St George in March 2026.
“The Commission is currently reviewing both licenses in accordance with Section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005, and the suspension will remain in effect until the Commission is satisfied that the companies meet the requirements. Both operators have been clearly instructed that, during the suspension, they must treat consumers fairly and keep them fully informed of any developments that affect them,” the UK regulator stated.
The regulator and the companies have not yet disclosed details of the investigation. Until the investigation is complete and the regulator issues a separate notice, the bookmakers are permitted only to pay out funds to players but are prohibited from accepting new bets.

Earlier, the UK Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), which represents the market’s largest operators, threatened to sue the Gambling Commission over plans to introduce new financial checks on players.
