Czechs have raised over 5 million crowns for bionic prosthetics for a Ukrainian soldier
Ukrainian soldier Artem underwent surgery to prepare for the fitting of bionic prosthetic hands. The procedure marked an important step toward his recovery from a severe injury.
This was reported on social media platform X by the Czech initiative “A Gift for Putin,” which raised funds for the hero’s surgery.
“Good news! Artem, for whom you all recently chipped in for ‘new hands,’ has successfully undergone surgery to prepare his shoulders and nerves for the installation of prostheses. He said that it hurts a lot and is healing slowly, but so far everything is going according to plan,” the post reads.
After the surgery, the soldier is undergoing rehabilitation. In his free time, he draws to take his mind off the difficult rehabilitation process.

A fundraising campaign for bionic prostheses for Artem was launched on February 18 by the Czech initiatives “Dárek pro Putina” and “Team4Ukraine.” The required amount—5 million Czech korunas—was raised in less than a week, and donors contributed a total of over 5.2 million korunas.
It was decided to perform the surgery in Lviv, at the Superhumans center. The subsequent process of examination, prosthesis fabrication, “fitting,” and intensive rehabilitation will take several months.
Artem is a 31-year-old Marine Corps sergeant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who suffered severe injuries during a mortar attack near Pokrovsk. Tourniquets provided by Czech volunteers saved his life, but due to a prolonged lack of medical care, doctors were forced to amputate both of his arms.
As a reminder, Canadian donors have raised approximately $77 million for Ukraine. Most of the donations came from ordinary Canadians who are not even of Ukrainian descent. These funds are already helping to support civilian infrastructure and humanitarian projects throughout Ukraine. According to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the organization has provided over 100 million Canadian dollars in aid to Ukraine.
Ambassadors from 35 countries in the Czech Republic have joined forces to purchase three generators for Ukraine. In total, they managed to raise 80,000 Czech korunas (about $4,000).
