Due to a shortage of medical staff, Russians will be treated based on AI recommendations
The Russian government has decided to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into the operations of state hospitals by the end of 2026, amid a growing shortage of medical personnel.
Deputy Health Minister Vadim Vankov announced this at a roundtable in the State Duma, according to Russian propaganda media.
According to him, with the help of AI, doctors will be able to process test results and all electronic patient records. “The use of these programs allows for the detection of diseases in their early stages and saves doctors time spent reviewing documents and patient data,” Vankov noted. He also emphasized that neural networks will serve only as assistants in making diagnoses and selecting treatment plans.
To implement AI, there are plans for widespread training of doctors in working with the relevant software. At the same time, as Vankov noted, many medical professionals still do not understand the necessity of neural networks. “We are aware of doctors’ concerns about whether artificial intelligence will replace them, but at the same time, we see that where specialists have undergone training, the application of AI is of high quality,” he added.
Also, according to the Ministry of Health representative, the government plans to create a unified database in 2026 where all patient images (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs) processed by a neural network, as well as half of all medical reports, will be stored.
