Due to the Russian threat, Finland has restricted shipping in the Gulf of Finland

The Finnish Armed Forces have imposed temporary restrictions on shipping in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. The military explained that this measure is intended to enhance security and ensure a rapid response in the event of a potential threat involving drones.

On the morning of July 18, the Finnish Armed Forces imposed temporary restrictions on shipping in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland.

According to the military, the decision is preventive in nature and was related to the possible need to respond to a threat posed by drones.

The restrictions took effect at 5:45 a.m. local time.

As explained by the Finnish Defense Forces, the temporary measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and creating conditions under which the authorities can respond promptly in the event of potential drone attacks.

At the same time, the agency emphasized that these are strictly preventive measures.

Katri Kokkola, a spokesperson for the General Staff of the Finnish Defense Forces, reported that, as of now, no drones have been detected that could deviate from their route and enter the country’s airspace.

According to her, despite this, the Finnish military has strengthened its air defense system as an additional security measure.

This was reported by Yle.

As a reminder, one of Europe’s largest civilian shelter systems has been established near Finland’s capital. In the event of a military threat, missile strikes, a nuclear attack, or an invasion, it will be able to shelter nearly one million people.

On the morning of July 10, the Finnish Armed Forces temporarily restricted the use of air and maritime space near the city of Kotka, located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. This was prompted by reports of a possible incursion of drones into the country’s airspace.

On the morning of July 4, the Finnish Armed Forces temporarily restricted air and maritime traffic in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. These measures were implemented for security reasons.
