Deutsche Bank has admitted to violating EU sanctions involving Russian clients

Deutsche Bank has informed European regulators of potential violations of EU sanctions involving Russian clients.

The Financial Times reports this.

The bank acknowledged that one of its retail divisions accepted deposits exceeding 100,000 euros from individuals subject to sanctions, despite the existing ban.

New EU rules require banks to promptly identify and block such transactions.

Deutsche Bank stated that it regularly reviews its compliance system and informs supervisory authorities.

The violation was discovered following searches at the bank’s headquarters in Frankfurt in January 2026 as part of an investigation into possible money laundering linked to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich.

Ukraine and a number of countries supported the new EU sanctions against Russia.

Merz announcednew sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet.
