Dobrindt: Investigators Consider the Vehicle Attack on the Berlin Pride Parade an Islamist Terrorist Attack
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that investigators are classifying the fatal car attack on participants in the Berlin LGBT Pride parade as an Islamist terrorist attack. On the evening of July 25, a car plowed into a crowd during one of Europe’s largest LGBT+ events: one person was killed and 16 others were injured.
According to Dobrindt, all available evidence regarding the attack, which took place on Saturday evening, points to an Islamist terrorist attack. Investigators have concluded that the suspect was radicalized and belongs to an Islamist group.

“We are dealing with a suspect who has previously drawn attention for a large number of criminal offenses, radicalization, and ties to Islamist groups,” Dobrindt said during a press conference near the scene of the attack.
According to the interior minister, the suspect had previously been sentenced to one year and ten months of probation, and the prosecutor’s office had appealed that verdict. He is a German citizen of Lebanese descent. Dobrindt expects the Attorney General to prepare the case for transfer to the federal level on Sunday.
