Aliko Dangote’s daughters say they need to prove themselves — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, Halima, Fatima and Mariya Dangote, the daughters of billionaire Aliko Dangote, said that their privileged upbringing did not make them spoiled. They said they must continue proving their professional competence to their father and colleagues while working in senior positions in his business.
The sisters said this in a joint interview with Bloomberg Next Africa, excerpts of which circulated online. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, they prefer not to publicize their background, wealth or personal achievements, including when interacting with representatives of wealthy families.
The father’s demands
According to Dangote’s daughters, their father expects perfection in everything, so they have to work particularly hard to prove their results. The sisters noted that it used to be easier for them to remain unnoticed, but now people recognize them more often.

They also said they do not seek to actively maintain social media accounts for attention. The sisters described their online presence as a way to express individuality rather than display possessions or status.
Working in senior positions
Halima, Fatima and Mariya Dangote emphasized that their positions involve responsibility, and being related to the business owner does not exempt them from the need to earn their colleagues’ respect. In their view, women in the workplace often have to make greater efforts to prove their competence.
The sisters named additional sources of pressure: they are young Muslim women from northern Nigeria and, in other people’s assessment, look younger than their age. They also stated their intention to create more opportunities for women in their father’s organization, drawing on their own experience.
