The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported Russian activity on Belarusian territory

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported Russian activity on Belarusian territory

Russia continues to expand its military infrastructure within Belarus—not near the Ukrainian border, but deep inside the country, where new bases and training grounds are emerging. At the same time, no significant buildup of forces has been observed near Ukraine, but units stationed there since 2022 remain. Ukrainian border guards say the situation is under control but requires constant monitoring.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made these remarks during a televised marathon, commenting on Russia’s activities in Belarus and the situation along the border. According to him, there is currently no observed increase in strike groups or new units directly near the Ukrainian border, but the presence of Russian forces deployed since 2022 remains.

“Fortunately, there is no buildup of strike forces or reinforcement of military units and equipment in the immediate vicinity of our border. However, according to intelligence reports, Russia’s influence on Belarus continues,” Demchenko noted. He emphasized that the key trend right now is the development of infrastructure within Belarus: specifically, training grounds, bases, and facilities where personnel can be stationed. “Deep within the country, there is a buildup of military infrastructure—including training grounds and bases where personnel can be stationed. Therefore, our task is to strengthen our defense capabilities and be prepared for any developments,” the spokesperson added.

He also explained that the number of Belarusian units stationed near the Ukrainian border since 2022 has not increased, but they are being rotated. “Their numbers are not increasing; instead, they are periodically rotated, as we are seeing now. One unit is being replaced by another,” said Demchenko.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine emphasizes that despite the absence of drastic changes near the border, the situation remains dynamic, and all movements within Belarus are being closely monitored by Ukrainian security agencies.

Reports of a Belarusian Il-62 cargo plane allegedly crossing the Ukrainian border are untrue, according to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The NSDC emphasized that the news about a Belarusian aircraft “flying into” Ukraine is fake.

In addition, Ukraine must form new brigades to strengthen its northern defenses in light of the potential threat from Belarus and Russia’s intentions to expand the zone of hostilities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that as of June 22, the relay stations on Belarusian territory that Russian troops had been using to direct strikes against Ukraine are no longer operational.
