British singer Ed Sheeran commented for the first time during a concert in Philadelphia, US, on the controversy that arose after American rapper Macklemore was removed from his tour over pro-Palestinian statements. Saturday’s performance took place without opening acts, and the start of the show was delayed.
Sheeran’s statement from the stage
According to BBC News, Sheeran said he had never sought to be an activist musician. He said the situation had placed him at the center of an important and heated debate about freedom of speech and the most difficult political issue on the planet.

Concert without opening acts
Sheeran took the stage alone after several musicians withdrew from participation because of the controversy. There were many empty seats at the sports stadium at the start of the concert.
Ticket prices fell, while sales for the remaining US leg of the Loop tour declined. Earlier, the singer said that the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour had been made by his promoters, not by him.
