South Korea's former first lady was sentenced to 7 years in prison
On June 26, a court in Seoul found former South Korean First Lady Kim Keon-hee guilty and sentenced her to seven years in prison for accepting gifts in exchange for influencing government appointments. The court’s decision marked one of the most high-profile corruption convictions in the country in recent years.
The Seoul Central District Court handed down the sentence on Friday to Kim, the wife of impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol, after she was charged with accepting bribes for acting as an intermediary and receiving expensive gifts in exchange for appointments and business favors.
It is noted that Special Prosecutor Min Jun-ki’s team sought a 7.5-year prison sentence, arguing that the former first lady repeatedly used her official status for personal gain.
This was reported by Yonhap.
