Expert: Events in Ceuta Are Being Used in Political Competition
Camille Le Coz, director of the Migration Policy Institute Europe, stated in an interview with France 24 that recent events in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta are being exploited politically to create an image of Europe as being under attack. The interview with the expert was conducted by Stuart Norval.
Le Coz suggested looking at the situation beyond the emotionally charged footage. In her assessment, migration flows are influenced by demographic pressures in North Africa, labor shortages in Europe, and the activities of networks involved in human smuggling. According to the expert, social media is fueling their activities.

The expert also drew attention to the persistent tendency to turn migration crises into a tool for domestic political competition. In her view, the debate on migration in Europe often depends more on competing political narratives about the significance of such movements than on the actual movement of people.
France 24 noted that Le Cos’s interpretation calls into question the widespread political narratives that have taken shape in Europe around the events in Ceuta.
