Former Bangladesh PM Hasina loses right to appeal death sentence
In Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can no longer appeal her death sentence, as the 30-day deadline for filing an appeal has expired. This was stated by Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, Anadolu Agency reports.
Appeal deadline has expired
According to the prosecutor, those sentenced to death, including Sheikh Hasina, who did not file an appeal within 30 days after the verdict was announced will no longer have such an opportunity. He also stated that all that remains now is the execution of the sentence.
At the same time, Md Aminul Islam noted that the government has the authority to suspend or cancel any punishment.

Tribunal verdict in Dhaka
Last November, the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka sentenced Hasina to death for crimes against humanity and her role in the brutal suppression of the 2024 uprising, which resulted in her government being removed from power.
According to the UN, Hasina's security forces and supporters of her Awami League party killed at least 1,400 people during the uprising, while thousands more were injured. Hasina is currently in India after fleeing Bangladesh and has stated her intention to return to the country in December.
