Erdogan is expecting good news from Trump regarding the sale of fighter jets to Turkey
During a bilateral meeting at the summit in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the agreement to purchase American F-35 fighter jets and jet engines for Turkey’s fifth-generation KAAN aircraft is nearing completion.
Erdogan recalled that Ankara had previously been promised the delivery of five aircraft and expressed hope that Donald Trump would fulfill his promises directly during the current leaders’ summit.
In addition, the Turkish leader is counting on positive news regarding the certification of American engines for the flagship national fighter jet, the KAAN. For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump assured that he plans to finally resolve the issue of selling aircraft to Turkey in the near future, bypassing existing congressional bans, as well as to lift the sanctions previously imposed on the country due to its purchase of Russian air defense missile systems.
