Erdogan Says He Told Trump Venezuela Must Not Be Dragged Into Instability

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he told US President Donald Trump in a phone call that Venezuela must not be dragged into instability. Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Erdogan added that Ankara would stand with the people of Venezuela.

He said that President Maduro and the Venezuelan people had previously shown themselves to be friends of the Turkish nation, warning that violations of national sovereignty and international law could create major global problems.

Erdogan also stressed that it is important to preserve the rules-based international order and avoid actions that could further destabilise the international system.
