Erdogan called for the continuation of the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran — Reuters
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made an important statement regarding the situation in the Middle East.
This was reported by Reuters.
During an address to members of parliament in Ankara, the Turkish leader emphasized his country’s efforts to support the fragile ceasefire between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Tensions between the countries peaked in late February when the U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iranian nuclear and military facilities.
However, thanks to the mediation of Turkey and Pakistan, the parties managed to agree on a temporary ceasefire, which Erdogan called a “window of opportunity” for the entire region.
“Statements from the parties show that, although the negotiating table has not been overturned, they have hit a roadblock on the nuclear issue. We are conveying the necessary proposals and implementing initiatives to ease tensions, extend the ceasefire, and support negotiations,” the Turkish president noted.
He also added a metaphorical point that it is impossible to reach an agreement while keeping one’s fists clenched.
Ankara believes that the two-week ceasefire, which resulted from lengthy diplomatic efforts, should be used to prepare a comprehensive peace agreement.
Erdogan expressed hope that the talks in Islamabad would bear fruit, despite active attempts at sabotage and provocations by radical forces.
The Turkish leader paid special attention to Israel’s role, noting that the attacks in Lebanon seriously undermine stability and threaten to destabilize the entire Middle East.
He called on the international community to support a diplomatic solution to the crisis while the ceasefire remains in effect.
