Erin Patterson is appealing her sentence in the triple-murder case

Erin Patterson is appealing to the Court of Appeals today, seeking to overturn her conviction in a triple murder case. According to ABC News Australia, the hearing is taking place at the Supreme Court.

Last July, Patterson was found guilty of triple murder and sentenced to life in prison. The sentence includes a minimum term of 33 years without the possibility of parole.

The defense is challenging the guilty verdict on several grounds. As ABC notes, Patterson’s legal team is filing the appeal. The hearing on this appeal is scheduled for today.

Meanwhile, the Crown prosecutors intend to file a separate appeal regarding the sentence. They seek to increase the sentence and deprive Patterson of any prospect of parole. Their separate appeal does not seek to overturn the conviction, but rather to increase the sentence imposed.
