The EU will announce the allocation of 3.3 billion euros to Ukraine for the purchase of missiles and drones
On September 18, the European Union will allocate 3.3 billion euros to Ukraine as part of its latest defense aid package for the purchase of missiles and drones. In addition, the EU is prepared to use remaining funds from the SAFE program to launch a new program of joint defense projects, which calls for the development of a European air and missile defense system based on the Freya ballistic missile defense system.
This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen following a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to Ukrinform, citing the European Commission’s press service.
The head of the European Commission emphasized solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the face of Russia’s attacks and noted that the parties also discussed the reforms necessary to unlock further funding and advance Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership. In addition, during the UN General Assembly session in New York, von der Leyen plans to call on international partners to strengthen their support for Ukraine.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized: “This will allow us to combine Ukraine’s combat experience and innovation with Europe’s technological and industrial potential.”

Ukraine’s defense industry could receive approximately 20 billion euros in unused funds from the Safe program—the European Union’s 150-billion-euro rearmament initiative—allocated by EU member states.
