The EU has allocated funds for Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine
The European Commission has approved a new aid package for Ukraine worth 6.1 billion euros. In particular, the funds will be used to purchase PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems.
“Today, the Commission officially approved €6.1 billion for Ukraine for air defense, drones, and missiles from the Ukraine Support Loan. This is truly a very important step forward. We have worked hard with member states and Ukraine to achieve this goal,” the European Commissioner stated.
He emphasized that this decision is a crucial step toward ensuring the combat readiness of the Ukrainian military and protecting critical infrastructure from Russian attacks.
According to the official, the decision will allow Ukraine to urgently address the shortage of precision-guided munitions and missiles for the Patriot air defense systems thanks to exemptions from general procurement rules.
“This decision officially allows Ukraine to procure PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot systems. The package includes five exemptions from standard acceptance criteria: three for Ukrainian-made drones and components that exceed price thresholds, and two for U.S.-made equipment, specifically PAC-3 missiles, including through the NATO coordination mechanism,” Kubilius emphasized.
The European Commissioner noted that speed of delivery is now a decisive factor, and the partnership between the EU and Ukraine must ensure an uninterrupted flow of necessary weapons to the front lines.
“Ukraine’s military advantage depends on rapid access to critically important products in the necessary quantities and within very tight deadlines. Accelerating EU deliveries by reactivating warehouses, shifting procurement priorities, and ramping up production remains crucial,” he said.
Responding to a question about the timeline for the delivery of PAC-3 missiles, Kubilius emphasized that allies are seeking flexible solutions to immediately meet Ukraine’s needs until new batches are ready to leave the factory.
“The question now is whether it is possible to reach an agreement with member states that already have PAC-3 missiles in their stockpiles to transfer these missiles from their warehouses to Ukraine now, and then receive replacements in accordance with Ukraine’s agreements for 2027,” the EU commissioner concluded.
As is known, thanks to the decision that was adopted, the European Union has fully allocated the 28.3 billion euros planned for this year to finance Ukraine’s defense under the Ukraine Support Loan.
The European Commission is currently processing a request for the disbursement of the next tranche in the amount of 4.7 billion euros, following the earlier transfer of 8.3 billion euros.
According to European Commission estimates, Ukraine’s annual requirement for protection against ballistic threats is approximately 2,000 PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, while global production volumes are only gradually increasing, requiring flexible solutions from NATO and EU allies.
This was announced by European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius at a press conference in Brussels, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

With the support of its allies and using a loan from the European Union, Ukraine is signing contracts to procure approximately 1,000 missiles for the U.S. Patriot air defense systems. Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara made this statement at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense.
The United Kingdom is allocating 100 million pounds to the PURL program to provide Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot systems and other air defense equipment as early as this winter.
