The EU is concerned about the activities of Iranian military attachés in Europe, — Euractiv

The European Union has expressed serious concern over the possible presence of Iranian military attachés who may be officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) operating under diplomatic cover.

This is reported by Euractiv, citing a non-public European report.

The internal report, which journalists have reviewed, states that some Iranian military attachés in EU countries may be linked to the IRGC, which the European Union has previously designated as a terrorist organization.

European officials fear that diplomatic status allows such individuals to move freely within the EU, enjoy the privileges of diplomatic immunity, and potentially engage in activities related to IRGC interests.

Among the individuals mentioned in the document is Iran’s military attaché in Poland, Mohammad Naghizadeh, who is suspected of having possible ties to Iranian security forces.

The report also notes that following the escalation of the international situation surrounding Iran, the IRGC has likely strengthened its influence within the country, and its leadership plays a key role in Tehran’s security and political hierarchy.

It is specifically mentioned that the organization led by Ahmad Vahidi, according to the report’s authors, may have significant influence on Iran’s decision-making and negotiation processes with the United States.

The document proposes considering the possibility of imposing additional sanctions, expelling Iranian military attachés and diplomats linked to the IRGC, and tightening controls on their activities within the EU.

According to the report’s authors, such steps could intensify Tehran’s international isolation and limit the operational capabilities of IRGC-linked entities in Europe.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States was prepared to continue military strikes against Tehran if the Iranian government rejected the terms of a new peace agreement.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant progress in negotiations with Tehran, noting that as part of a potential agreement, Iran could transfer its highly enriched uranium to the United States.

At the same time, Trump once again repeated the threats he has been making in recent weeks: “If they agree, it’s over; if not, we’ll bomb them.”
