Lithuania will purchase Swedish Carl-Gustaf M4 grenade launchers to strengthen its defenses

Lithuania has signed a contract with the Swedish defense company Saab to purchase modern Carl-Gustaf M4 84-mm grenade launchers, which are intended to strengthen the defensive capabilities of the country and allied units. The agreement provides not only for the supply of weapons but also for the development of defense cooperation and investment in the national defense industry.

This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

Under the agreement, Lithuania will receive Carl-Gustaf M4 grenade launchers along with training models and related components. The first deliveries are expected in 2026, which will allow for the gradual rearmament of units to begin.

A separate element of the agreement is cooperation on the development of the industrial sector. Lithuania and Saab have signed an industrial cooperation agreement worth approximately €17 million, which is intended to strengthen the country’s defense industry and technological capabilities.

The contract is part of a broader 10-year cooperation program with an estimated value of up to €58 million, which provides for the phased modernization of weapons and the expansion of the partnership.

Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas emphasized: “In addition to purchasing weapons, we are also investing in the Lithuanian defense industry, our economy, and our technological capabilities. We have signed an industrial cooperation agreement with Saab worth approximately €17 million.”

Lithuania will also receive over a hundred air defense missiles from the U.S. following the State Department’s approval of the relevant agreement.
