The EU has assured that Moldova is not at risk of a blackout following Russia's attacks

The European Union has stated that, despite damage to energy infrastructure caused by Russian strikes on Ukraine, Moldova is not currently at risk of a blackout.

This was reported by European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

According to her, the country’s power supply remains stable, there are no outages, and the system continues to operate smoothly.

Electricity supply is ensured through:

  • redirected imports;
  • renewable sources;
  • domestic generation.

The EU noted that it is in constant contact with the Moldovan authorities and is monitoring the situation.

“There are always ways to ensure electricity supply,” Itkonen emphasized, adding that Moldova is synchronized with the European power grid.

On March 24, Moldova may declare a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days amid massive Russian strikes on Ukraine’s power grid.

As a reminder, Moldova is implementing a state of heightened readiness in the energy sector due to the situation in the Middle East.

Additionally, following the Russian attack, technical oil in the Dniester River has reached Moldova.
