Estonia has called for Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO as a guarantee of security for Europe
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that now is a “historic moment” to integrate Ukraine into the EU and NATO, as this would serve as a guarantee of security not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
Tsakna wrote about this on X.
“NATO is not only talking about the fact that we must provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but also that our region needs security guarantees from Ukraine, since Ukraine is currently the largest, most effective, and most experienced military force in our region,” the Estonian minister emphasized.
Tsakna also warned of the consequences of leaving Ukraine in a “gray zone.” “These ‘gray zones,’ neutral countries, or buffer zones—whatever we call them—are simply a green light for Putin to continue his aggression against Europe. So we must realize that this is also our opportunity,” he added.
According to the minister, Ukraine is fighting today not only for itself and its freedom but is also giving Europe time to strengthen its own security system.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union in early 2027 is an unrealistic scenario.
As a reminder, the European Commission has outlined another condition for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Von der Leyen also assured that Ukraine will receive a loan from the EU.
