The European Commission is inspecting Ferrero's offices — Bloomberg

The Italian company Ferrero, the manufacturer of the chocolate-hazelnut spread Nutella, has confirmed that it is the subject of an antitrust investigation by the European Union.

Bloomberg reports this.

According to the company, European Commission officials are conducting inspections at its offices this week. Ferrero stated that it is fully cooperating with the regulator and providing all necessary information.

Earlier, on April 13, the European Commission announced surprise raids at the offices of a major confectionery company in two EU countries.

At that time, the company’s name was not disclosed, but it was noted that the investigation concerns possible violations of competition rules, specifically cartel agreements and abuse of a dominant position.

According to the regulator, the inspections are focused on the alleged restriction of trade in goods between EU countries—so-called territorial supply restrictions.

The European Commission emphasized that such raids are only a preliminary stage of the investigation, and potential fines for violations of antitrust laws could reach up to 10% of the company’s global turnover.

The European Commissionhas submitted a list of 11 laws to the Verkhovna Rada as a condition for receiving €4 billion.
