The European Commission has unveiled the AccelerateEU plan to tackle the energy crisis

The European Commission has unveiled the AccelerateEU emergency package to stabilize energy prices, which have skyrocketed due to the war in the Middle East.

This was announced by EC Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera at a press conference in Brussels. The new initiative aims to protect vulnerable consumers, support industry, and accelerate the transition to clean energy sources to strengthen Europe’s security and competitiveness.

The action plan covers five key areas, including the coordination of emergency measures at the member state level and the implementation of temporary state aid programs to mitigate price shocks. Special attention is given to modernizing energy grids and stimulating the electricity sector through tax incentives. Ribera emphasized that investing in domestic power generation is the best solution for overcoming dependence on fossil fuels, which are often supplied by Russia and other unstable regions.

The European Union plans to attract additional capital to accelerate the energy transition, which is intended to serve as the foundation for a new security architecture. According to the EC Vice-President, despite better crisis preparedness, the EU needs systemic measures to ensure long-term market stability. The implementation of investment programs will not only help achieve climate goals but also stabilize price levels for end consumers. The implementation of AccelerateEU will begin immediately to minimize the impact of geopolitical instability on the economies of member states.

The European Union is considering the possibility of introducing mandatory aviation fuel reserves for member states.

Germany is also preparing an emergency meeting of the National Security Council due to concerns about the stability of energy supplies and a possible fuel shortage. Authorities assure that the situation is under control but acknowledge the risks of deterioration.
