Farage commented on the removal of the Ukrainian flag in Essex

In the British county of Essex, the new Reform UK administration has removed the Ukrainian flag from the council building and replaced it with the British flag. Party leader Nigel Farage stated that support for Ukraine remains, but that foreign flags should not fly over government buildings.

In the county of Essex in the UK, the newly elected Reform UK administration decided to remove the Ukrainian flag, which had been flying near the council building since March 2022. The British flag was installed in its place.

Party leader Nigel Farage commented on the situation, emphasizing that support for Ukraine remains, but the approach to state symbols is changing. “We, of course, support the people of Ukraine, but under the Reform UK administration, foreign flags will not fly over our government buildings,” Farage wrote on Facebook.

The decision has already prompted public comments from local authorities. Council Chairman Peter Harris called the flag change a “moment of pride” and emphasized that it does not mean a reduction in support for Ukraine. “Replacing the Ukrainian flag does not diminish the support and generosity that the people of Essex have shown to the people of Ukraine since 2022, and I know this will continue,” Harris stated.

The Ukrainian flag was raised outside the council building after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion as a symbol of solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Now, the county is announcing a change in its approach to displaying foreign symbols on public buildings.

In London, a march by supporters of far-right activist Tommy Robinson is taking place simultaneously with a large-scale counter-protest, which has partially merged with a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

The United Kingdom denied entry to German MEP Piotr Bystron of the “Alternative for Germany” party, who was scheduled to speak at a large demonstration in London.

The UK also denied entry to Dominik Tarchiński, a MEP from the Polish Law and Justice party. The politician had planned to attend the so-called patriotic march, which is linked to far-right circles.

On Tuesday, May 12, another junior member of the British government resigned and called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down as leader of the Labour Party. The decision was made after the party suffered electoral losses in last week’s elections.

Already, 41 Labour Party MPs have publicly called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down as party leader.

Earlier, Starmer spoke of growing tensions in relations with the U.S.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which they discussed increasing pressure on the aggressor. The leaders paid particular attention to the fight against the Russian shadow fleet and London’s contributions to the PURL program to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
