China announced its role in bringing peace to Ukraine following talks between the leaders
Beijing has confirmed that during the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, they discussed the war in Ukraine, which China refers to as the “Ukrainian crisis.” The Chinese side states that, together with the U.S., it is already taking steps to bring about peace, each “in its own way.” This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a press briefing.
For the first time, China has directly confirmed that the war in Ukraine was part of the talks between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, while Beijing emphasized that both countries allegedly seek the swiftest possible end to hostilities and are already contributing to the peace process.
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi while commenting on the results of the U.S. president’s visit, with the Chinese side presenting itself as one of the potential players capable of influencing the course of events surrounding Russia’s war against Ukraine. “China and the U.S. hope for the swiftest possible end to hostilities and have already done much to encourage peace and negotiations, each in its own way,” Wang Yi said, emphasizing that Beijing considers its own role in this process to be significant.
At the same time, the Chinese foreign minister acknowledged that the path to peace will not be quick or easy, noting that complex international conflicts are not resolved instantly and require lengthy negotiations and political efforts. “Complex problems do not have simple solutions, and peace negotiations cannot be concluded in one fell swoop,” he said, effectively describing the long-term nature of any potential agreements.
Separately, Wang Yi added that China and the United States will continue to maintain communication and strive to influence the situation, emphasizing that Beijing is ready to continue playing a “constructive role” in the political resolution of the conflict.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has accepted an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump and will make an official visit to the United States this fall.
