The FBI foiled a terrorist attack during Trump's birthday celebration
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies foiled an attempted attack on a UFC tournament held on the White House grounds to celebrate U.S. President Donald Trump’s birthday.
According to the investigation, on Monday, June 15, five people were arrested, and another 23 were identified as accomplices.
According to sources, the plan involved using drones carrying explosives to attack buildings near the White House, which was intended to trigger a mass evacuation and create conditions for a subsequent attack.
The perpetrators allegedly planned to storm the White House grounds through the main gates.
Law enforcement officials determined that the plot was discussed on the Signal messaging app, where at least 23 participants in the conversation were identified.
U.S. intelligence agencies received information about the planned attack on June 10. Following this, one of the suspects was arrested in the state of Ohio.
During the investigation, law enforcement uncovered details of the coordination of actions and determined that potential targets could have included members of the U.S. political and business elite.
One of the detainees stated that the targets of the attack were the “capitalist elite,” billionaires, and politicians.
The UFC event took place on the night of June 15 in Washington, D.C., at an arena specially built on the South Lawn of the White House. The event was timed to coincide with Donald Trump’s birthday and was partly linked to the upcoming U.S. Independence Day, celebrated on July 4.
U.S. law enforcement officials say that thanks to their swift action, they were able to prevent a potentially large-scale terrorist attack and foil an organized conspiracy.
