Finland is tightening its deportation and entry rules for migrants

The Finnish government has submitted a bill to parliament that would impose stricter rules on deportation and entry bans for foreigners.

This was reported by Yle.

Under the initiative, the deportation of rejected asylum seekers is set to be expedited, and entry bans may be imposed on grounds of national security.

Interior Minister Mari Rantanen emphasized that the new rules will specifically apply to individuals linked to terrorism. The ban could apply both within Finland and throughout the entire Schengen Area.

The government is also proposing to introduce a citizenship test—in Finnish or Swedish. It could be implemented starting in 2027.

The test will consist of 20–40 questions, and a score of approximately 70% correct answers will be required to pass.

In addition, the government plans to cut funding for integration programs by 47 million euros in 2027.

The bill also provides for the possibility of transferring the processing of asylum applications to “safe countries” outside the EU.

As a reminder, Finland has deported a record number of Russians.

Finland is also making it harder to obtain a permanent residence permit.
