Germany has refuted a Russian fake news story about nuclear weapons
The German federal government has categorically rejected Russia's claims that the country is allegedly developing an atomic bomb.
"The federal government views this report as part of Russia's usual propaganda. These accusations are simply untrue," a government spokesperson said.
He added that Russia “is playing on nuclear fears, which it itself constantly stokes with its irresponsible statements.”
According to the spokesperson, Moscow is attempting to sow discord between NATO countries and the European Union, as well as to discredit Germany as one of Ukraine’s strongest allies.
"It is possible that Russia is also seeking to influence voter sentiment ahead of state elections in the eastern federal states," he noted.
Earlier, Russian intelligence services circulated a message on Telegram claiming that Germany had allegedly “clearly set itself the goal of gaining direct access to nuclear weapons.”

Merz stated that the German government was not involved in secret negotiations with the Russians in Baku.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also confirmed that this secret meeting took place on July 12–14, noting that the country’s territory was used without the knowledge of the official authorities in Baku. At the same time, Aliyev added that if such contacts were intended to help end the war, then such an initiative can only be welcomed.
