Finland temporarily closed the airspace over the Gulf of Finland

On the morning of July 2, Finland briefly imposed restrictions on the use of airspace in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. The restrictions were subsequently lifted.

 

This was reported on the Finnish Defense Forces’ website.

The Finnish military reported that at 4:26 a.m. on July 2, flight restrictions were imposed in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, affecting all types of aircraft. 

Approximately two hours later, around 6:20 a.m., it was announced that the restrictions had been lifted. The reasons for these measures were not specified.

Earlier, the Finnish government initiated a historic revision of the 1987 Nuclear Energy Act, which until now had strictly prohibited the import and storage of nuclear munitions on the country’s territory.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that the country has no intention of stationing nuclear weapons on its territory during peacetime.

Finland has also authorized the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory.
