An alert was issued on the beach in the Romanian village of Costinești after a piece of a drone was discovered. Law enforcement officers quickly arrived at the scene and established a security perimeter around the object.
The suspicious object was found directly on the beach.
Local authorities later confirmed that the object was a fragment of a drone.
The debris was found near the spot where a drone had been discovered the day before. Experts do not rule out that it may be part of the drone found approximately 24 hours earlier.
Vacationers were the first to notice the dangerous object near the dam on August 13 and reported the discovery to emergency services.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that a special team of military EOD divers was called in to examine the debris.
“At around 10:40 a.m., the Coast Guard requested assistance from the Romanian Navy, asking them to dispatch a team of combat divers specializing in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD),” the ministry said.
Experts inspected the recovered fragment and determined that it did not contain explosives and posed no pyrotechnic hazard.
Law enforcement agencies are currently continuing to monitor the coastal area.
