France and Poland are in talks about conducting joint exercises in the field of nuclear deterrence.
This was reported by Politico.
The issue was discussed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Gdańsk, where he met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
One of the topics was Poland’s participation in the European nuclear deterrence project initiated by France.
Tusk stated that Warsaw is interested in strengthening security amid threats from Russia and is already joining a group of countries cooperating with Paris in this area.
At the same time, France emphasizes that control over its nuclear weapons will remain exclusively with it.
The parties are also discussing the possibility of deploying French aircraft equipped with nuclear weapons in allied countries.
Macron noted that specific options for cooperation are planned to be worked out in the coming months.
Next week, Paris and Athens will officially renew their bilateral security agreement, extending its term for the next five years.
