Hungary's new government will transfer severance payments for former ministers to an orphanage in Ukraine

Hungary’s new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, has announced that the severance payments that ministers of the previous government were to receive following their resignation will be directed toward supporting an orphanage in Ukraine.

The facility is located in a town where the Hungarian minority is the predominant population.

According to Magyar, the former ministers agreed to forgo the payments, which, together with compensation for their deputies, total nearly 1 billion forints (about 2.8 million euros).

The new head of government also accused the previous administration, led by Viktor Orbán, of corruption, cronyism, and worsening the country’s economic situation, announcing his intention to launch an investigation into the former administration’s activities.

The Hungarian government commented on the massive attack by Russian drones on Transcarpathia, during which the region’s critical infrastructure was struck. Officials in Budapest described the situation in the border region as extremely alarming and announced that urgent countermeasures were being prepared.

Transcarpathiahas suffered the most massive attack by Russia since the start of the war — Regional Military Administration.
