France has called on China to urge Russia to end the war against Ukraine

France is engaged in ongoing dialogue with China, urging Beijing to use its influence on Russia to bring about an end to the war against Ukraine.

This was stated by Pascal Confavre, spokesperson for the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavry stated that relations between Russia and China are “extremely distorted and unbalanced,” especially since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

According to him, Russia’s war against Ukraine has effectively isolated Moscow from a significant portion of its international partners, particularly in the energy and economic sectors.

France emphasizes that it maintains a constant diplomatic channel with Beijing to convey messages regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“This channel allows us to appeal to China to use its privileged relations with Moscow and call for an end to this aggression,” Confavry noted.

Paris believes that China has unique influence over Russia thanks to close political and economic ties.

France also links this diplomatic effort to the priorities of its G7 presidency, which focuses on addressing global economic imbalances.

The French Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the issue of international security is becoming increasingly acute, and that cooperation among major powers is a key factor influencing the course of the war.

“This is a priority that is becoming even more important in the context of an increasingly tense global security situation,” the spokesperson added.

Russia is preparing to take on new debt in Chinese yuan to cover its growing budget deficit, which has already approached 6 trillion rubles. The decision to issue bonds came immediately after Vladimir Putin’s visit to China. The Ministry of Finance plans to enter the market with long-term securities as early as the beginning of June, according to Russian media reports.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to provide China with “uninterrupted” supplies of oil, gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG)

Following U.S. President Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin arrived in China to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping

During his visit to China, Vladimir Putin had hoped to secure Beijing’s approval for the construction of a new large-scale gas pipeline, but the talks ended without a result.
