France is projected to suffer up to €15 billion in losses due to the drought
French Environment Minister Monique Barbu stated that the country’s losses from the drought could reach between 10 and 15 billion euros.
According to her, the prolonged water shortage is already posing significant risks to France’s economy and environment. Agriculture and water resources are likely to be hit hardest by the drought.
Barbou noted that her statement is based on estimates from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), but emphasized that these estimates should be “treated with great caution.”
“We can estimate—at least, this is INSEE’s estimate— and this figure should be treated with great caution—that the direct and indirect losses from this year’s summer heatwave will amount to between 10 and 15 billion euros,” she said.
She made these remarks on Wednesday, August 12, during a crisis meeting, according to Le Figaro.
France has banned unsolicited sales calls to consumers without their consent.
