The G7 will discuss Ukraine and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz in Paris

G7 finance ministers will gather in Paris to discuss the war in Ukraine, the conflict in Iran, and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. Against the backdrop of global tensions, they will also discuss sanctions and instability in global markets. The need for coordinated economic decisions is particularly emphasized. This is reported by Sky News.

In Paris, G7 finance ministers are preparing for talks taking place against the backdrop of several global crises—the war in Ukraine, tensions surrounding Iran, and instability in the Strait of Hormuz—which are affecting the global economy and energy markets.

This was announced by European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis, who noted that the meeting will focus on finding joint solutions to stabilize the situation.

A separate topic will be the need to restore the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible following its blockage, which reportedly occurred in response to military actions by the U.S. and Israel.

It is expected that during the meeting, the U.S. will call on its partners to increase sanctions pressure on Iran, particularly on its military and economic infrastructure, to limit the conflict’s impact on global markets. “I will urge the G7 to maintain sanctions against Iran’s military machine,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, commenting on the agenda for the talks.

The ministers will pay special attention to the conflict’s impact on the global economy, particularly fluctuations in bond markets—which are causing concern in Japan—as well as the overall instability of global financial flows.

Analysts note that the meeting is taking place at a difficult time, when the world’s leading economies have different approaches to resolving crises, and recent negotiations between the U.S. and China have not led to any significant agreements. The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and representatives of the European Union also participate in the group’s work.
