According to Financial Times, Major General Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Ghamari, the Houthis’ chief of staff, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Yemen’s capital, Sana’a — marking the highest-ranking Houthi casualty since the group entered direct conflict with Israel two years ago. His son and several senior officers were also killed.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike, describing it as a “decisive intelligence-led operation” targeting Houthi command structures. Analysts said the attack underscores Israel’s growing intelligence reach in Yemen and represents the biggest blow to the Iran-backed group in a decade.

The Houthis, aligned with Iran’s “axis of resistance,” have been launching drones and missiles at Israel since October 2023 and disrupting commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The US and its allies have responded with joint strikes and naval patrols to protect global trade routes and curb Houthi aggression.
