Geographical distance from Russia does not protect against Putin's aggression — Sikorski
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that geographical distance from the borders of the Russian Federation does not guarantee security for European countries.
The Kremlin uses hybrid tools, disinformation, and state-sponsored terrorism to destabilize the entire continent.
The main danger lies in the funding of internal conflicts within the societies of European Union countries.
The Polish diplomat emphasized that Moscow’s aggressive actions take many different forms depending on the region.
For Warsaw, this manifests itself in an artificial migration crisis on the border with Belarus and constant violations of airspace by military drones.
At the same time, southern European countries are also under attack, although they experience it differently due to their geographical location.
According to the minister, Russian interference is clearly evident in the domestic politics of distant states, particularly Spain, where the Kremlin supported Catalan separatists.
In addition, Moscow’s subversive activities in the Sahel region of Africa are provoking new waves of migration, which directly affect the stability of Southern Europe.
Russia is spending enormous financial resources to create chaos and division among Europeans.
“Of course, geography matters, and it is normal that the threat from Russia is perceived differently (in Spain) than in Poland,” noted the Polish Foreign Minister. However, he cautioned his colleagues against the illusion of complete security. “Therefore, it is dangerous to think that geographical distance from Moscow protects against Putin’s schemes, his disinformation campaigns, and state-sponsored terrorism, murders, and assassination attempts on European soil,” Sikorski emphasized.
The Polish official paid special attention to Beijing’s role in the current architecture of global security. In his view, European leaders should abandon any illusions regarding Asia’s neutrality or mediation.
