Estonia's Foreign Minister called for tougher sanctions against Russia following the massive attack on Ukraine
Following the massive Russian shelling of Ukraine on the night of August 1, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called on international partners to increase pressure on Russia, impose tougher sanctions, and step up military aid to Ukraine.
According to the minister, Russia is continuing its campaign of destruction and terror against Ukraine, which once again confirms its unwillingness to end the war.
Tsakhnia also expressed solidarity with Lithuania, as the Lithuanian Embassy building in Kyiv was damaged during the nighttime attack.
“The attack, which took place just a few meters from the diplomatic mission, underscores once again that Russia is not interested in peace. The only language Russia understands is force. We must intensify pressure through tougher sanctions, hold Russia accountable, and increase military support for Ukraine,” emphasized Margus Tsakhnia.
The Estonian foreign minister stressed that only increased international pressure, expanded sanctions, and greater military support for Ukraine can force Russia to abandon further aggression and bring about a just peace.

On the night of August 1, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine, using 35 missiles and 185 strike drones of various types.
The number of casualties from the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of August 1 has risen to 30. Among the wounded are four children, and nine people were killed in the strike.
Following yet another massive Russian attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that the country urgently needs additional air and missile defense systems, as well as interceptor missiles.
Nine people were killed and another 28 were injured as a result of the Russian nighttime attack on Kyiv on August 1. Among the victims were four children.
On the evening of July 31, a Russian attack drone struck a high-rise residential building in the Saltivsky district of Kharkiv. According to preliminary reports, the building’s roof was damaged, but there were no casualties.
As a reminder, Russian drones attacked the Chernihiv region, damaging a gas station and a resort.
Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv on the afternoon of July 24, although such attacks usually take place at night. An expert believes this may have been an attempt to wear down Ukraine’s air defense, a show of force, or the result of a technical delay in the missile launch.
