Japanese company tests mine-detection drone in Ukraine — NHK

The Japanese company Prodrone has conducted official tests in Ukraine of an innovative drone designed to effectively detect anti-personnel mines from the air.

This was reported by the NHK broadcasting company.

Successful tests of the new technology took place on Monday in Kyiv at a specially prepared site. This development is intended to significantly speed up and make safer the process of clearing Ukrainian territory of explosive ordnance.

To test the drone’s performance, specialists used mines that had already been rendered harmless.

The organizers placed some of the hazardous objects directly on the surface, while the rest were buried in the ground to a depth of about 15 centimeters.

The state-of-the-art drone, equipped with a powerful metal detector, conducted a thorough search at a height of about 30 centimeters above ground level. The device demonstrated high accuracy in detecting hidden threats.

Prodrone is currently actively collaborating with leading Ukrainian companies in the development of drones for detecting anti-personnel mines.

To implement this important project, foreign engineers received a financial grant from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

Combining international efforts and leveraging technology enables the creation of effective tools for humanitarian demining of de-occupied territories.

Japanese developers emphasize the importance of the social mission of their technological initiative. A company representative noted that anti-personnel mines prevent people from returning to normal life.

According to him, the company hopes that its technologies will become an effective solution for humanitarian demining. Robotic systems help prevent human casualties during the initial survey of fields.
