ICAO Responded to Ukraine Regarding the Risks of Flying in Russian Airspace
The International Civil Aviation Organization has officially responded to Ukraine’s letter regarding the risks of flying over Russian territory. At the same time, officials in Kyiv have called on airlines and insurers to withdraw from the Russian market.
This was reported by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has officially responded to Ukraine’s letter regarding the risks of continuing flights through Russian airspace. According to Sibiga, Ukraine is grateful that the organization has communicated a clear position on this issue to all member states.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine reaffirms its commitment to protecting civil aviation—which is precisely what the Defense Forces have been doing since the start of the full-scale invasion by intercepting Russian drones and missiles. He noted that this threat extends far beyond Ukraine’s borders and regularly disrupts air traffic in NATO countries.
Sybiga stressed that it is Russia that is deliberately terrorizing the airspace and the civilian population through regular missile strikes and drone incidents.
The protection of civil aviation and airspace security must remain a shared responsibility, he noted. The minister called on international airlines, insurers, and other aviation companies to take these threats seriously and suspend operations in Russia.

On September 10, in the Svyatoshynsky district of Kyiv, a drone crashed in an open area in the woods near a shopping center. According to preliminary reports, there was no fire and no injuries.
In the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv, an enemy drone struck the roof of a four-story business center. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances and address the aftermath of the incident.
