India Plans to Purchase Javelin Anti-Tank Systems
India plans to purchase Javelin anti-tank missile systems. U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor wrote about this on the X platform on August 28, calling the planned procurement an important step in the development of defense relations between the two countries.
According to the diplomat, this intention could open opportunities for joint production. At the same time, this concerns India’s plans to acquire the system.
System components
As reported by The Hindu International, Javelin is developed and manufactured by a joint venture of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The publication describes it as a portable multipurpose anti-tank missile system capable of countering various threats.

The system consists of a command launch unit and a missile. The command launch unit has day and night sighting systems, electronics, and controls.
“Fire-and-forget” principle
The missile is equipped with an infrared homing seeker that guides it after launch. The operator locks onto the target before launch and can therefore change position after firing. The Hindu notes that Javelin is standard equipment for U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps brigade combat teams.
