Iran threatened to raise gasoline prices following Trump's announcement of a naval blockade

Iran threatened to raise gasoline prices following Trump's announcement of a naval blockade

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a sharp statement directed at Washington, warning of an inevitable spike in gasoline prices for American consumers.

This reaction came in response to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a possible blockade of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian official expressed his conviction that current fuel prices in the United States will soon seem extremely low to Americans.

The politician hinted at serious upheavals in the global energy market should the conflict escalate.

“Enjoy the current gas prices. Soon you’ll look back nostalgically on cheap gas at $4–5,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on his page on social media platform X.

In addition to economic threats, the speaker of the Iranian parliament officially confirmed the complete failure of the negotiation process with the American side.

According to him, the dialogue has reached an impasse due to a deep crisis of trust that could not be overcome during recent meetings.

Ghalibaf noted that the Iranian delegation had developed a list of specific proposals to resolve the situation.

However, the negative experience of previous years and the lack of guarantees from Washington prevented any constructive agreements from being reached.

“Due to the experience of the two previous wars, we do not trust the other side. They ultimately failed to win the trust of the Iranian delegation in this round of negotiations,” he emphasized, explaining the reasons for the breakdown of diplomatic efforts.

Iran announced that negotiations with the U.S. would move to the expert level

The US and Iran began negotiations with Pakistan’s participation.

The US announced the start of demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, US warships passed through the strait for the first time since the start of the war without Iran’s approval.

Negotiations between the US and Iran have begun to move forward. Tehran stated that Washington had allegedly agreed to unfreeze a portion of Iranian assets, but there has been no official confirmation from the American side yet.

Iran is unable to quickly restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz due to the problem of minefields in the waterway and the lack of technical means to completely clear them.
