Trump threatened China with a trade war over its shipment of weapons to Iran
Donald Trump warned China and other countries that he would impose 50% tariffs if they supplied weapons or provided military aid to Iran.
He made this statement in an interview with Fox News, noting that such measures would be a direct response to attempts to strengthen Tehran’s military capabilities.
The president emphasized that although he has a certain relationship with Beijing and doubts that China will continue supplying MANPADS, any detected violation will lead to immediate economic sanctions. Trump called the 50% tariff a “colossal sum” that should serve as a deterrent for any country supporting the Iranian regime. This statement came amid U.S. efforts to impose a complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and attempts to force Iran to accept Washington’s terms. Currently, the U.S. administration is stepping up monitoring of international trade routes to detect possible instances of sanctions evasion. Experts note that this policy of “tariff pressure” is part of Trump’s broader strategy to economically isolate U.S. adversaries.
Peace talks between the U.S. and Iran, which lasted 21 hours in Islamabad, ended without results.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakai stated that significant differences on several strategic issues prevented the conclusion of an agreement with the United States in Islamabad.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the start of a complete naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program. According to the American leader, despite agreement on most issues, the key problem—the development of nuclear weapons—remained unresolved.
