Iran is demanding reparations for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran is demanding reparations for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz

Official Tehran has announced that the strategically important sea route will remain closed until the country receives full compensation for the damages caused by the war.

This was reported by Clash Report, citing a statement by Majlis Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on April 5, 2026. Iranian authorities plan to implement a “new legal regime” that would impose a special transit fee on all vessels passing through the strait to cover war losses.

The statement was accompanied by a harsh ultimatum directed at the U.S. and accusations against the Donald Trump administration of blindly following orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Iranian side emphasized that forceful attempts to unblock the strait are doomed to failure, and that Washington’s actions are leading the region toward a massive catastrophe. Tehran insists on the payment of reparations as the only way to restore shipping.

These demands emerged amid threats by Donald Trump to destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure if the strait is not opened by April 7. While Russia watches the escalation that threatens the global oil market, Iran has made an exception only for Iraqi vessels. In Ukraine, against the backdrop of the Middle East crisis, border guards are successfully destroying the occupiers’ equipment, while domestic arms manufacturers are presenting new models of the Inguar-4 armored vehicles. Currently, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains the main factor in global instability.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran as early as April 6, 2026, warning of the complete destruction of critical infrastructure should negotiations fail.

Prior to this, Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership, demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be unblocked by the evening of Tuesday, April 7

As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threatened a “harsh response” to ships.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
