Iran says US denied visas to members of president’s delegation — Asharq Al-Awsat
Iranian state media said that the United States denied visas to some members of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s delegation, including staff from his communications team. The delegation was due to accompany the president to the UN General Assembly in New York. Asharq Al-Awsat reports, citing the Iranian agencies IRNA and Mehr.
Iran’s statement
IRNA described the decision as an “unprecedented hostile move” by the administration of US President Donald Trump. Mehr, citing a representative of the Iranian president’s administration, reported that Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
According to the outlet, the United States allowed the Iranian delegation to attend the General Assembly but, as last year, will impose restrictions on it. The US State Department said on Thursday that delegation members will, among other things, not be allowed to purchase luxury items and other goods.

Araghchi’s trip
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is part of the delegation, left Iran on Sunday evening with a stop in Qatar. Iran also said that it conveyed to the United States, through Qatar as a mediator, conditions for resuming shipping along the strategic route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Pezeshkian will become the highest-ranking Iranian official to enter the United States since the start of the Middle East war following US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February, Asharq Al-Awsat notes.
